Unable to launch Steam VR on Samsung Odyssey HMD

This probably isn’t the right place, but I thought I”d reach out as it is related to Steam VR; but: I just picked up a Samsung Odyssey HMD Windows Mixed Reality headset as it seemed to be a good fit for my use-case (cramped space, no good way of hiding cable runs for Rift or Vive cables).

I cannot for the life of me get Windows MR and Steam VR communicating with one another. I’ve installed both Steam VR and the Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR app on Steam. Neither will start. I’ve tried uninstalling the apps and reinstalling, I’ve tried running beta versions, and I’ve tried reinstalling Steam. No change; they simply show the Steam loading window, followed by nothing. No Steam VR window, no error messages.

Launching a game (Beat Saber) just shows it on my primary display, not on the Odyssey.

I’ve already posted to /r/WindowsMR, but I thought I’d post here as well in case there’s another MR user here that found a solution for this issue. If this isn’t the right place, I understand if the mods need to take it down.

[Edit 1] For some additional detail: here’s what appears to be the relevant content from the log found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs\vrclient_steam.txt:

“Sat Oct 13 2018 23:44:15.301 – Could not create interface in driver holographic from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\bin\win32\driver_holographic.dll.Sat Oct 13 2018 23:44:15.301 – Unable to init watchdog mode for driver holographic: VRInitError_Init_InterfaceNotFound

Sat Oct 13 2018 23:44:15.314 – No drivers were capable of being watchdogs. Failing init.”

I’ve tried reinstalling the Windows MR for SteamVR “app” to another disk out of curiosity (and updating the openvrpaths.vrpath file to avoid issues caused by having two different driver paths), with no change.

[Edit 2] Out of curiosity, I checked another log under the same directory (vrclient_vrstartup.txt) indicated that the SteamVR server was not starting properly. I decided to launch this service manually by finding the application on disk and executing it. I immediately got errors referencing DLLs from version 14.x of the Visual Studio C++ Redistributable. Repairing Visual Studio C++ 2017 Redistributables from the Apps menu in Settings (or Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel for those still on Windows 8.x or lower) allowed the SteamVR server to start. SteamVR then detected my headset and controllers, followed by starting the SteamVR tutorial sequence.
