So… why should anyone ever need to wear glasses in VR?


Another post asking about astigmatism made me think… Given that the image and focus length can all be changed (I assume) by the game/hardware actually outputting a different image.. Why can’t manufacturers/programmers include options that basically mimic having one’s glasses on? I mean, I get that the current lenses are “tuned” so that all programmers simply need to set the “camera” at a certain distance, and everything will be in focus…

But it seems like it should be a fairly straightforward mathematical equation to slightly alter the output image to match a person’s individual optical prescription, so that everyone can use any VR headset without glasses.

Maybe there is some limitation involved that prevents this. I’d be interested in getting a technical explanation if so, from one of the developers on the subreddit…
